THE NEW WORLD
The “newest“ continent on earth is also the most discussed one. Which is becaus eof the United States of America, a country which consists over 50 states that have been established by immigrants from Europe. This mixture of nationalities developed into the most powerful nation in the world. Which creates opportunities but unfortunality also some threads...
In 1992 I visited the States for the first time. It was Florida with its Keys, Everglades and all the amusement parks. I learned that Americans like it the easy way: everything seemed to be developed to support mankind. Not only in the amusement parks..but also in the national parks.
In 1994 (and several times after) I returned to the States for my work, primarily New York and New Jersey (Philadelphia). New York was impressive which in the meantime has transformed into an even more attractive town (from a tourist perspective that is). Unfortunately the terrorist attack on the twin towers makes a visit to The Big Apple one with mixed feelings.
In 2000 we drove around the western states (California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada) with the emphasis on the national parks. We started in Los Angeles and ended in San Francisco. After that we finished off on Hawaii on the island of Kuaui.
In these states we spent much time in the world famous national parks Joshua Tree, Mesa Verde, Montezuma Castle, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, Zion and Yosemite. All of them well-known parks and despite the fact that the Americans have the tendency to “over-civilize“ everything, the landscapes are unforgettable. The Grand Canyon is something you should have seen once in your life, and Bryce Canyon is so incredibly beautiful that one can only understand when he‘s been there. About Hawaii I can be very short: forget about it. There are enough alternative islands in the Pacific that were able to keep their authenticity.
In 2003 we drove around Alaska during our world trip. We explored this huge state up until the Arctic Ocean and enjoyed its great national parks and unforgettable landscapes. Here we found the rough USA - it‘s so rough that the Americans like to shoot a lot of the wildlife...
The USA is a country of contrasts. Beautiful to over-civilisation, freedom to extremely conservative, nice to arrogant. Americans in general are very proud of their country and also often conservative which combination can lead to hilarious moments. But if you can stand it, it‘s fun to travel around. |
