JAMAICA TRAVEL INFORMATION
People: unfortunately we found the general Jamaican somewhat unfriendly (except for the resort staff, but that‘s a fake world). They were even a bit aggressive and rascist. Score: 5
Landscape/Nature: sun, sea and sand, that part is allright. Also inland (the part we saw) was quite attractive, but not overwhelming. Score: 7
Transport/Infratructure: the roads we travelled were fine. Unfortunately I wouldn‘t know about the public transport. But I can imagine that inland not all roads are as great as the main ones. Score: 8
Animals/Fauna: didn‘t see much of it. The island is not very well known for its wildlife. Score: 6
Food: the local specialty is marihuana, you can‘t miss it! Other than that we found nothing special, American fast food with a local dressing. Some seafood. Score: 6
Climate: warm but humid. Good beach life with a breeze, inland you will sweat a lot. But I quite liked it. Score: 8
Culture: nothing special. The black population are primarily descendents of black slaves who originally came from Africa. But it doesn‘t have to do anything anymore with Africa. Or it has to be the Rastafari culture of which origin is actually from Ethiopia. Score: 5
Hygiene: reasonable, no western standards but fine for an island built on tourism. Score: 7
Travelling costs: island are always relatively expensive and Jamaica is no exception. And in a resort prices are of course the highest you can find on the island! Score: 6
Safety/Stability: outside the fence of the resort we did not feel safe. Partly that had to do with our limited experience in 2nd and 3rd world countries, but it was definitely a genuine feeling. In the meantime news reached us that crime is high on the island. Score: 4
Excitement/Adventure/Challenge: no I am sorry, but I did not find anything on this island that enhanced to feeling of adventure. Just because it is part of the Carribean is not enough. Score 5
Overall score: 5.8
With this score Jamaica will NOT be in our top 10 list of most attractive countries to travel. |
